Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program
LIHEAP is funded by the federal government. In order to be eligible for LIHEAP, your income cannot exceed 225% of the federal poverty level (approximately
$48,000 for a family of four). For applications and additional information please conact the agencies below.
NJ Shares
NJ Shares is designed for income levels that exceed the level required for LIHEAP funding. The program provides heating assistance for families whose
income is between 225% and 400% of the federal poverty level. It provides one free delivery during the heating season, up to a total cost of $700.
Applications for this program are also obtained through NORWESCAP.

Citizens Energy
Citizens Energy offers temporary heating assistance by providing 100 free gallons of heating oil to homeowners facing economic hardship. Applications
are accepted between January 11 and February 28, or until the funds are exhausted. Citizens Energy can be contacted directly at 877-563-4645.
People Help
United Way/People Help provides emergency financial assistance for the benefit of Sussex County residents who are recommended by local agencies.
